The 106th edition of the Tour de France is winding down ! The race began in Belgium on 06 July and ended yesterday after four weeks of racing against the clock and amid an intense heatwave that lasted the whole week!
However we should not overlook the impressive production means deployed by EUROMEDIA which included 1 OB unit, 2 motorcycle trucks, 3 wifi enabled PLCs, 2 cars, 4 helicopters, 2 fixed-wing aircraft, 180 transponders and 15 motorcycles equipped with wireless cameras for France Télévisions, a dedicated OB production trailer with super inter-signal processing for the Amaury Sport Organisation and an OB studio, 2 SNG vans and support for Eurosport.
In total more than 110 people worked to cover 3480 kms of the race over 21 days and deliver six hours of live coverage per day to over 100 television channels around the world !
After a gruelling battle, the Columbian Egan Bernal finally claimed the yellow jersey and beat teammate and defending champion Thomas Geraint ! As for Julian Alaphilippe, he was the first Frenchmen to cross the line and came fifth.
This year’s edition stood out for the following reasons:
- extreme weather conditions
- unprecedented suspense until the very end
- the yellow jersey #MaillotJaune celebrated its centenary
But above all this was the last Tour de France production directed by Jean-Maurice Ooghe who has been at the helm since 1997!
And so ends this great summer event which gathered more than 5.7 million television viewers for the final on Sunday evening!
